This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students face this battle everyday. They need to have pressure in order to calm their senses down form being over stimulated. They are over stimulated quickly and pressure helps in the process of calming their bodies.
I teach kindergarten and first grade special education in a PLC room.
PLC stands for Primary Learning center, which is a classroom for students with developmental delays. I have nine students in my classroom who range in their abilities in the areas of math, reading, and writing. It is my passion to help my students reach their goals and be successful in school. Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” I want to empower my students and show them how smart they are.
I teach in a school where 100% of students come from poverty.
My Project
My students will use the pressure vest to help them cope with the difficult situations they face. Many of my students struggle with expressing themselves due to their disability. They are wonderful students with a heart of gold. They can be over stimulated by all the movement going on in a school. Having a pressure vest and weighted animal will help them cope with the overwhelming tasks they face every day. The pressure of the vest makes the students feel as if they are being given a big hug and the weight from the animal gives them the pressure they need when sitting on the rug.
They will be able to take the pressure vest and weighted animal to their specials such as gym, art and music we have during the day. The vest will help them walk through the hall calmly and the weighted animal will help them sit through specials with a calm body.
This project will make a difference in so many of my students lives.
My students can be over stimulated so easy in the fast pass atmosphere of a public school. They would greatly benefit from receiving a pressure vest and a weighted animal to use through out the day and sit with on the rug.
