This project will reach 10 special needs students in a Title I school. My students have a variety of disabilities and sensory needs. My students range from 9 years old to 11 years old.
My class is a moderate to severe special needs classroom with different disabilities.
My students have many sensory problems which drastically affect their ability to regulate their little bodies and learn. Without sensory regulation, my students are anxious, stressed, uncomfortable, and poorly regulated.
All of my students require specialized academic instruction and have a variety of sensory needs. They deserve to learn, be anxiety free, and enjoy school.
My Project
The sensory items I am asking for will help my students alleviate some of the negative sides of sensory needs. For example, when my students get frustrated or mad, they are unable to independently handle those emotions. Sensory items such as squishy balls and liquid motion bubblers help my students calm down and work through these emotions.
Sensory regulation is very important for children with special needs.
Without sensory regulation, my students can have physical and mental pain as well as panic and feelings of being unsafe. The sensory items I am asking for will not only help make my students feel safe and calm their emotions but will allow them the best opportunity to learn.
