Sensory Lighting (Fluorescent Light Filters)

My students need light filters to improve the atmosphere of the classroom. Light filters will help lessen the intensity and brightness of my classroom's fluorescent lighting. Lighting changes have been shown to improve student achievement.

My Students

My students are wonderful young men and women who are fully of life, energy, and questions. Many of my students come from low-income households, and they view school as fun place to learn, grow, and develop. We are a one-to-one school, so my students are engaged with a device on-and-off throughout the day.

That being said, screen time, mixed with the fluorescent classroom lights, can cause sensory complications.

Using fluorescent light filters will create a softer, sensory-friendly environment in which my students can learn, grow, and develop.

My Project

I have selected fluorescent light filters to use in my classroom.

These light filters will soften the lighting in my classroom, and make my classroom more conducive to learning, and these filters will make my classroom more inviting for students who have sensory issues.

We are a one-to-one school, so students spend a lot of time looking at computer screens. That, coupled with intense fluorescent lighting can wear at students' eyes. Studies have also suggested that softer lighting increases students' moods and performance.

I teach English, so my students spend a lot of time reading and analyzing texts. Having softer lighting in my classroom will benefit all students, especially those with sensory issues.
