My Students
I teach an energetic, caring and inquisitive group of 15 kindergarteners who are all passionate about reading and expanding their knowledge of the world around them.
My students come to school each day motivated and eager to engage in new learning experiences; for many of my students this is a place where they can step outside of their comfort zone, explore the world around them and take risks as learners.
As their teacher, it is my role to foster their love for learning, to build their confidence, and to support their academic, social, and emotional needs in order to ensure their success.
My Project
Learning through play and having a multi-sensory experience allows students to retain learning concepts. This project will allow for a sensory table to be added to our kindergarten classroom. The selected materials will allow us to create themed sensory bins that match our curriculum and some of the topics of study throughout the school year- construction site sight words, a look at our nature trail and the animals living in the forest, becoming entomologists and catching letters and words, exploring in the rainforest, and so much more!
Sensory learning helps increase and build upon students' language development, fine motor skills, social skills, as well as their problem solving skills; all of these skills are extremely important for students to develop and strengthen in kindergarten.
Within our classroom, students will have the opportunity to work at the sensory table throughout the day. While at the sensory table, students will be encouraged to interact with peers as they share out their findings, communicate the task they are completing and problem-solve together as they share tools and take turns using items. In addition to this, students will also have a variety of academic tasks to complete at the sensory table. Such tasks will focus on, but are not limited to, letter identification, name recognition, one-to-one matching, and rote counting.
