Help me give my students sensory items for the classroom, to assist these high-risk children concentrate during learning time, and self-soothe when upset.
Our site teaches at-risk three-, four-, and five-year-old children in a free pre-kindergarten classroom. These kiddos are creative, curious, and eager to learn. Many of our students are overcoming odds, as all of our students come from low-income households, and many come from traumatic backgrounds.
We strive to provide opportunities that our at-risk students may not otherwise have or be able to enjoy.
We are eager to create life-long learners, through thoughtful instruction, and materials, both in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.
My Project
While our students are absolutely amazing, almost all of them come from high-risk and at-risk situations. In order to increase their opportunity for success, we strive to provide a caring classroom that offers opportunities not only to grow intellectually but to grow socially and emotionally, as well. We feel that a large part of success depends upon being able to regulate emotions and to play an active part in social situations; therefore, our classroom focuses very closely on the social-emotional piece of learning.
The items requested will assist these at-risk students to concentrate during lessons, to assist in their learning to self-soothe, and to offer the opportunity of an outlet to convey their feelings, while interacting with peers.
