My students are the most wonderful, intelligent, kind, inquisitive, funny, and enthusiastic children in the world!
They work hard to grow and learn and live up to my every expectation.
Our small elementary school is located in rural Wisconsin, in an increasingly impoverished county. I am the librarian and serve all four K through 4th-grade students. I work to help them, as one of our school mottos states: "Grow their brains." As the school librarian, I co-teach with each teacher several times a year. Together, we believe that our children deserve rich, engaging, hands-on lessons, and we go the extra mile to make that happen.
My Project
I teach grades preK-4 in a rural school. Like many rural schools we face the ills of the greater society. Many of our littlest students come to school with intense emotional baggage.
My goal is to help our youngest learners learn coping skills that help them deal with social-emotional pressures.
The items requested will be used to create sensory stations in each first grade classroom. The fidgets, putty, sensory toys, worry-eater puppets, alternative seating, and other items are designed specifically to help children learn how to self-regulate. This will help them throughout the day, and in particular when they come to the library to learn to and love to read.
