Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with a group of fun, quirky, interesting young boys and girls that have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Some of the students are verbal and some are non-verbal. Some have many sensory issues and some have just a few. Our students enjoy navigating on the computers, kindles, IPADs and cellphones. They love to put things together using legos large and small blocks. This group of delightful kiddos are so lovable and playful, they enjoy attention as well as having a quiet moment to themselves on a bouncy chair or bean bags.
My Project
Sensory toys are toys that provide the particular sensory input that many children with autism crave. Some sensory toys are also excellent fidget toys and can improve concentration and focus in children with autism and others who need to keep their hands busy to listen and attend. The items chosen are specifically for children with autism to learn to calm and soothe themselves. They can learn how to manage their anxieties independently by having a variety of items to utilize and having enough of a variation so the children will have equal time with each item they choose for that day.
