Sensory Is Amazing For Emotional And Academic Needs!

My Students

My Kindergarten and 1st grade students love and live for school. On days when school is not in session, or on remote learning, several parents have stated their child will get their backpacks and wait by the door to go to school. The social and academic impact school has on my students makes all the difference in their world. My students are bright, curious, and engaged learners who love to have fun.

Working with students with severe disabilities creates unique learning needs, both emotionally and academically.

My classroom's curriculum is adapted to meet each students individual needs as I work with students diagnosed with Autism, Down Syndrome, Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome, and students with multiple disabilities who have visual and hearing impairments.

COVID-19 has had a huge impact on my students. Online learning is difficult to engage with my students and keep their interest. Many of my students struggle with sitting in chairs, following directions, and engaging in non-preferred tasks. When the students are on remote learning and come back to in person schooling, I often have to spend several days working with them on being back in school, engaging in tasks, and sitting in their chairs.

My Project

My students have difficulty regulating their emotions and behaviors, sitting in their seats, and engaging in tasks. When school is moved to remote learning, due to COVID, it amplifies this issue when we return to in person schooling. Sensory breaks and activities are critical for my students to help with self regulation and focus.

By donating to the project, you will provide an opportunity for sensory breaks for emotional needs as well as a light table and tactile letters to help my visually impaired students with their sensory and academic tasks.

My students will have sensory activities to help calm them when needed, which will help refocus for learning activities. A light table will help my visually impaired students focus on learning shapes, colors, letters, and other sensory activities. Their attention will be drawn to the tasks, enhancing their opportunity to learn.
