Hi! I serve students who have a wide range of disabilities. I teach in a self contained class setting. I have students with autism and intellectual disabilities. Many of them need extra pressure or sensory stimulation to complete their assignments. They are such sweet students who want to learn and feel accepted! They are the reason why I love my classroom and I hope to educate them with experiences and life lessons to help them for years to come! These items will help them succeed in the classroom!
My Project
These items will help my students focus, relax, and enjoy learning. Sensory objects and materials allow students to calm while enjoying their learning activities! Students will be able to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. If they need a kick band to play with while reading a book, they can choose a chair with a kick band to sit in. So many of my students fidget and get distracted easily while during their work. Sensory items will allow my students to focus better where they can use these supplementary aids to meet their needs. The items I have requested are:
-Bubble tube (visual stimulation) for calming.
-Bagel seat cushion- to sit on for fidgeting while completing work
-Instructional Life Skills Materials- Manipulating fingers to learn to button, tie, and zip up cloth objects.
-Kick Bands- allows children to fidget using their feet to play with foot band. Helps focus while working.
