My Students

I have 15 students with special needs. All students have cognitive delays, most students have physical delays. They range in age from 12-15 and are eager to learn and explore as any typically developing student.

My classroom is considered "self-contained," meaning my students have limited access to the general education curriculum and classes.

They are more than two-years behind peers their same age.

Because of their disabilities, most of them have sensory therapy needs. Sensory integration therapy aims to help kids with sensory processing issues (which some people may refer to as “sensory integration disorder”) by exposing them to sensory stimulation in a structured, repetitive way.

My Project

Sensory Integration the neurological process of processing and integrating sensory information from the body and the environment contribute to emotional regulation, learning, behavior, and participation in daily life. Having Sensory Therapy Integration activities in my classroom along with basic motor skill building games and activities will help my lower functioning students access general education concepts and help them develop the necessary skills for them to be successful in the classroom through motor planning. Motor planning ability is a natural outcome of Sensory Integration Therapy process, and aides in the ability to adapt to incoming sensations. Through this process, these lower functioning students will be better prepared to learn and succeed in any classroom setting.
