This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Sensory manipulative items are needed to assist special needs students develop skills needed to be successful in their learning environment.
My special needs students attend an urban school district in Memphis, TN.
More than 95% of the students in our school district receive free or reduced price lunch. My students are cognitively and developmentally delayed with IQ's below 60. They function lower than their typical-aged peers.
My Project
I have requested giant knob puzzles, sorting manipulatives, and activity mats to start the new school year. These resources will allow me to work with my students at their functional level.
These resources will help build fine motor skills, as well as early concepts in math and literacy. My students will be less frustrated in completing a task because this is something they can feel capable of doing.
This project will have a positive impact on my students because these resources will help them make progress on their goals and objectives.
My students will be able to physically manipulate large puzzle piece into position. In addition, my students will be able to develop gross motor skills with the number and alphabet activity mats.
