I work in a unique school environment, with unique students. I teach special education to grades K-6. My fantastic group of students are all very different learners, but work very hard every day to achieve and overcome goals. We do not see each other as students with labels, but students with unique learning situations that need a little extra TLC from an amazing teacher!
Determined, hardworking, and understanding, my students come to my classroom ready and willing to learn and beat the odds against them, daily.
Each student that comes into my classroom loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best varies greatly between each one of them. I incorporate a variety of learning strategies based on student needs and strengths, inclusion strategies for the classroom environment, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!
My Project
My students have unique behaviors, including sensory needs and preferences. I am a special education teacher who teaching a truly special group of K-6th grade students - who are ALL uniquely created. Most of us take for granted the ability to self regulate when we are under stress or pressure.
My students and I are requesting various sensory items that will assist in helping them students to calm down and to deescalated their sensory overloads that they all experience.
These items, including a variety of fidget toys, busy boards, LED light filters, and more, will be placed in our sensory room for students to use at any time that they feel that they need to relax and to calm down.
By helping my students to learn how to better self regulate their sensory needs independently, it will help them to be able to handle being integrated into the regular education setting in during their school hours.
