My Project

I am a special education teacher for the severe-profound high school population. Students have significant global delays, including physical impairments.

Sensory and strength will provide opportunities for sensory integration, modulation, therapy, and movement to support students physical, emotional, and academic needs.

The platform swing will be used to allow students freedom of movement. Students will be able to get out of their wheelchairs, stretch, and move their bodies to strengthen core and leg muscles. This swing will motivate students to try to move more by wiggling and moving legs to help the swing move. The color changing light pad will further motivate movement. When touched, the color changes to a new color. This is highly motivating to students that want to see the cause and effect they can have on objects around them. My students also have IEP goals that focus on increasing movement to activate objects. These two items will allow students to work on goals that target upper and lower body movements, movement in a supine position, and activation of objects (like a switch) to facilitate communication/AAC.
