Sensory Exploration To Teach Language and Articulation!
Help me give my students Tromlycs round chair seat cushions, clear storage latch bins, and a variety of textures to fill the bins for sensory learning.
My students are funny, amazing, and curious kids who are mostly from lower income families. They do not have access to a lot of different experiences due to family mobility issues, parents working multiple jobs, and income limitations. Many of my students also have sensory seeking or sensory avoiding behaviors that need to be addressed while they are learning language and articulation (speech sound) skills or before the skills can be addressed. The items I'm requesting will give my students the sensory input needed by providing them with a variety of textures and objects to dig through to find speech and language targets.
My students love hands-on learning and would be delighted to learn through active sensory play.
Studies have shown that students are more engaged and learn more when multiple senses are integrated. I will use the clear plastic storage bins to store the mini stuffed animals, putty, kinetic sand, pom pom balls, water beads, stones, and more. These will form a huge library of sensory bins I will use to hide miniature items and pictures that target each student's specific vocabulary or articulation goals. Because we often sit on the floor to increase whole body learning, my students would benefit from the Tromlycs round chair seat cushions to help define their own personal space and provide more comfort during therapy.
