My students need materials to assist with self-regulation. We take multiple breaks throughout our school day to help our bodies decompress and our minds refocus. These items help us do just that!
My students are exceptional. I learn more from them each day than I can ever hope to teach them in a year.
Each child has individual needs in the areas of cognition, sensory processing and mobility.
They require specialized instruction in all academic areas, and benefit from a classroom setting that is tailored specifically to meet their academic and functional needs. With such a broad range in abilities, it's vital to their success that my classroom is equipped with the materials needed to help each and every student access the content and reach their full potential.
Through this site, I hope to build a better classroom with the resources/materials needed to foster growth in all of my students.
My Project
In Special Education, our days revolve around much more than books. We have to consider the bigger picture, giving thought to the vast array of needs specific to each student. A big part of preschool is learning how to follow school rules, and sometimes that's hard when our busy little bodies need a break.
By taking five minutes to relax in the Pea Pod or gaze into the fiberoptic lights, we are giving students with exceptional needs an opportunity to reset and refocus, thus setting him/her up for more success throughout their school day.
It's crucial that the classroom is set up to address academics while also not forgetting the sensory needs of each student in order to promote a happy and healthy learning environment.
