Help me give my students the materials we need to hold our first annual sensitive color run, such as color powder packets, towels, T-shirts, and sunglasses to support physical education and sensory stimulation for my special needs students.
This is a special needs class and we will be collaborating with our Life Skills Group in an effort to increase physical activity, inclusion and diversity. The Life Skills class aims to teach skills such as problem solving, relationship and conflict resolution, good habits, and daily life skills. This group is diverse and is open to any 6th, 7th or 8th grader along with any special needs student that would benefit from the experience.
Our special needs class consists of several students who are at the low end of the autism spectrum and require one-on-one assistance.
Each student has individualized educational plans and unique learning styles and goals.
It is imperative that our Life Skills Group work one-on-one with these students to increase diversity, acceptance, and teach companionship.
My Project
The Sensory Color Run will integrate our Life Skills Class with our Active Learning Classroom to support physical education and sensory stimulation. It will also increase special need awareness and inclusion with the general student body of our school. Furthermore, it will advocate general physical activity, wellness, and healthy habits. The T-shirts are necessary so students can recognize the vivid colors, the sunglasses are for crucial eye protection, and the towels will be used for clean-up. The color powder will stimulate the special needs students visually and enrich the run. The collaboration between our Life Skills group and our special needs classroom will teach the priceless life skills of inclusion, community involvement, and helpfulness.
