My Students

I am a high school special education teacher and I teach students with learning disabilities, autism, emotional/behavioral disabilities, as well as students with ADHD. Many of our students have free or reduced lunch, have a difficult home life, and/or struggle to have essential materials needed for school (e.g., notebooks, folders, pencils, calculators).

As a teacher, it is my responsibility to support my students, making sure they have what they need to succeed in all settings as well as encouraging them to become life-long learners.

As a department, we use our budget to buy those essential materials for students and our classrooms. As a result, our classroom setups (desks, tables, chairs, whiteboards) have been ignored for years. As our classes grow, we find ourselves looking for ways to be creative with seating, organizing classrooms, etc. Many of our students would benefit from having a classroom that feels comfortable and welcoming. A room that they’re able to enter and really focus on improving their skills.

Overall, I want my students to feel supported at school, hopefully making them contributing members of society in the future.

My Project

Students will love to use the wobble stools while working on their school work! It will be a great addition for my students who have Autism and sensory needs as well as for students who struggle with attention and need that constant movement. We currently have balance balls in my classroom, but students tend to bounce too much on them which becomes a distraction for other students. Therefore, having these wobble stools will be a game changer!

Creating an environment that is engaging, fun, and safe, is what all teachers strive for!

These chairs will be a fun learning tool that all students can use, making working in the classroom more fun and engaging.
