Sensory Brain Break - Part 1

My Students

My students are typical kids. They are always on the move. They like to move and groove throughout the day to help their concentration on academics. My students need a way to calm down and relax during their school day.

First graders are learning how to cope with many things during the course of a school day.

They are learning new things daily that are not always academic. Their social and emotional learning can be a struggle at times for some of my students. They need a way to unplug so their brain can process information better. They need to practice breathing so they can redirect their energy in positive ways.

My Project

My goal for this project is to provide my students with a designated Sensory Break Area to help them calm down, refocus or just take a brain break during the day. The bubble tubes and cube light will provide a visual focus as my students learn coping skills in our sensory space.

The sensory space will be designed to help my students with sensory issues learn to regulate their brain’s negative reactions to external stimuli.

They will learn to develop coping skills for these experiences that they will be able to carry into other classes and areas in the school setting or their own personal lives.
