This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title One building where all students receive a free lunch and breakfast. Many of my students lack even the basic supplies to be successful in the classroom.Attendance can be sporadic for many of my students who lack dependable transportation and schedules at home. I want my students to know that school is a place where they can feel safe, have fun, and learn!
This class has formed a nice family unit.
The kids are always looking out for one another and genuinely try to be helpful. It is heart-warming to see them exhibit empathy for each other. They are a very high energy group that is eager to learn. They love when we are able to do something new or out of the usual routine.
My Project
These materials will allow my students the opportunity to practice fine motor skills while having fun participating in math and literacy activities. So much of our work is pencil and paper and students really love when they get the chance to do something hands on.
The sensory bin will double as a place for free sensory exploration as well as a tool for many literacy, math, and art activities.
My students will be able to practice skills they learn in the curriculum such as letters, building words, ordering numbers, the list goes on. I will be able to create seasonal and holiday activities that relate to kindergarten curriculum as well. Students will be able to match letters, make words, create blends, etc. This will be such a fun way for them to practice skills as well as take a much-needed break from the pencil and paper routine.
