Welcome! Thank you so much for taking the time to make a difference in the lives of the children of my classroom. My students are a diverse group of learners from northwest Austin. They are energetic, creative, and inquisitive. We love to learn, think, question, and make positive changes in our world. We embrace our differences and strive to make the classroom a welcoming and comfortable environment. These students are incredible, and I learn from them each and every day.
My Project
My goal for the new year is to incorporate multi-sensory learning into our classroom. I believe strongly in student agency in the classroom-- my students are always given choice throughout the day with flexible seating, choice boards for class assignments, and center activities. However, we do not currently have multi-sensory options for learning. With the materials listed below, my hope is to continue providing student choice in literacy and math centers with a multi-sensory twist!
Students learn through play.
With the lego materials listed below, my hope is to create a lego wall for students to practice building words and math equations. I hope to incorporate the Weplay tactile path and liquid floor tiles to create walking paths for spiraled learning experiences such as sight word recognition and/or equation fact fluency. I would love to incorporate the light sensory tray and accompanying sensory balls into our word work and math centers as a way to create words, sentences, and equations.
Flexible seating and classroom setup options are also important for our learning environment. The flex-space easel is important for our daily learning for mini-lessons across content areas. A new easel on wheels will allow me to move it as needed for a flexible classroom layout. Having a set of whiteboard clipboards as well as storage space for them will allow students to work around the room and provide students with the opportunity to work with whiteboards and dry erase markers.
