Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have the honor of working with some incredible students . My students are the most impassioned, honest and have the deepest of feelings for themselves and others. These students are students who often struggle to navigate their classrooms, peers and or teachers. We come together to reflect, restore and rebuild in a space that allows them to be have resources to calm their bodies." In this space, kids are able to take the time they need to work through what is keeping them from feeling joy, loved, or capable.

We host restorative conversations when there is conflict, whether between students or even students and teachers!

The space is meant for students to remember how wonderful they are, and discover what they need to continue to thrive.

At times, the space can see turmoil, and that is okay but I would love for there to be ample supplies for our kids. Knowing that their "normal," our "normal," will be in flux for some time to come. We want to make sure students have snacks available for resetting, and resources to ensure they are able to return back to class in a calm manner.

My Project

My students sometimes come to school hungry. This project will allow students to have a variety of options for snack and food beyond school breakfast and lunch. This also gives students an option to take snacks home over the long extended weekend such as fall, winter and spring break. We want the opportunity to ensure that students are set up for success and that they can be successful in all of their learning spaces. This would help them stay focused and the bellies full enough to get through the school day.
