I teach in a public career and technical education high school in East New York. Our students love hands-on projects, working in groups, and learning about technology!

My learners are not only knowledgeable about the latest technology, but they're also passionate about sharing their knowledge with others.
My learners are passionate, generous, energetic, and committed to learning. I'm inspired daily by how they overcome obstacles to pursue success. I hope that this project can help me support them in attaining their goals!
My Project
Sensory aids such as fidget cubes and stress balls are shown to encourage focus and information retention in students who struggle with attention. Last year, I lent a fidget cube to one of my students during a project, and I noticed that it greatly increased his ability to focus. Intrigued, I lent the cube to a few of my other students during a variety of activities.
Regardless of the activity being performed, my students were noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they were given a sensory aid such as a fidget cube.
Last year, with the generous support of friends, family, community members, DonorsChoose.org partners, and other donors, I was able to secure a set of sensory aids to provide to my highest-need students. The positive impacts of these supplies were multi-fold, but the most telling endorsement came from the students themselves, who told me that they felt more able to focus on the task at hand when armed with their sensory aids. Because of this success, I am eager to continue providing similar aids to my incoming class of new students for the next school year.
Our incoming class next year has a high proportion of students with ADHD and Autism, and who otherwise struggle with attention. Therefore, I am seeking to build a classroom set with a variety of sensory aids, so that I can be fully prepared to support my exceptional learners to demonstrate their full potential, starting with the very first day of school.
