My students need wobble seats, balance board, hanging ball chair, river stones, and sandpaper letters to provide them with the chance to incorporate as many senses as possible while they are learning.
I am blessed to teach a group of special education students with diagnoses including ADHD, Autism, Oppositional Defiance, Emotional Disturbance and Sensory Processing Disorder. My students learn best in a sensory friendly environment that allows for movement, but still engages the academic learner.
Our classroom community is one that embraces our similarities, while celebrating our differences, using various methods of sensory integration.
Our classroom offers students the chance to collaborate and assist each other, as I guide them on our learning journey.
My Project
If my project is funded, my classroom will become more student-centered and my special education students will have the opportunity to learn in an environment that encourages movement and celebrates their unique individuality. Together, we can increase productivity and educational impact, by allowing students to use as many senses as possible in their learning.
Active kids chairs will improve student focus as they wiggle while they learn during independent and whole group learning opportunities.
Many of my students seek sensory input. A hanging sensory swing and balance board will offer students a new way to regulate their sensory systems when they are needing additional sensory input. Many of my students struggle with their gross and fine motor skills. River stones, a balance board, and sand paper letters will help students with motor skills and will be additional supports for my sensory seeking students.
This project will allow them to reach their potential and increase their love of learning. My goal in this project is to give my students the best educational opportunity that I can. I believe that these tools will help students reach their goals in a multi-sensory, tactile environment.
