My students are a diverse group of different types of learners who come from all walks of life. If middle school years aren't challenging enough already, many of my students show up daily dealing with situations we cannot even fathom. Their strength inspires me. I hope to allow science to inspire them! I have learned from my students, as they have learned from each other, just how accepting and appreciative we can be of each other for our differences.
What makes my students amazing is that despite what is going on in their personal lives, they come to class excited, inquisitive, impressionable, and open to inspiration and new experiences.
Our school services families from all different backgrounds and socio-economic classes. It is very important for me to make each of my students' days as enriching as possible. This means different things to each of them. Ultimately I hope to provide them with skills, opportunities, and experiences that will enable them to be successful in the 21st century work force as problem solving, productive, contributing, educated members of society.
My Project
Middle school students are notoriously bad at understanding graphs and the value of data collection. We are requesting PASCO sensors to assist us in more accurate data collection as well as the experience of viewing data graphically every time we collect it!
Help us embrace measurement with accuracy and technology and apply it to real world use.
We will visually SEE changes HAPPEN before our eyes, as data is collected in real time and graphed-- something we can only imagine with our hand help thermometers and pH sensors.
We hope to start simple with temperature collection and branch into other forms of data collection with a focus on chemistry including evaluating the pH with more than just paper as well as measuring the carbon dioxide produced in chemical solutions.
