Our students are special in their own ways. We do everything we can to bring that to the forefront of their education. We celebrate differences and uniqueness. We serve students with a variety of needs. Some students have learning disabilities, sensory processing needs, and emotional regulation needs.
We are always doing our best to be up to date with new, engaging, and research-based practices.
Current research has proven that regular physical activity and behavior rehearsals help students improve their self-regulation skills. Many schools in our districts have a room dedicated to this practice. UPDATE: We now have a space and we are calling it our Motor Room!
Our teachers work incredibly hard to do everything in their power to give their students the best opportunities to learn and grow. Our staff works together in so many formats and have had a lot of success. As we move towards a more inclusive school, the general education and special education teachers have begun to explore co-teaching models and the most effective and efficient ways to provide in-class support to our students.
My Project
My students need more materials to use when taking breaks. The items like fidgets, tubes, and magnetic putty provide sensory input when students need breaks both in their classroom and outside their classrooms.
Building supplies like the Magna Tiles create natural opportunities for social skills building.
Since we serve a large population of student in many classrooms, we need a variety of materials. Also, often materials get misplaced or broken over time so I need to replenish my supplies frequently.
These various tools will help us provide breaks for students and opportunities for practicing social skills. I can't wait to see how the kids use these tools!
