Help me give my students stress and anxiety relief options so they can be more successful during the school day, as well as learn valuable coping skills.
General education, and even more so special needs students, both for inclusion and self-contained need opportunities to relieve stress and anxiety so they can continue to be productive during the school day.
My kiddos are wonderful learners, but sometimes need extra support.
These are students who have been identified through testing as struggling in one area or another. Some students struggle with processing information, others with identifying letters or numbers with written text, others maybe in calculations, or even various aspects of emotional instability. The emotional instability can include anxiety and depressive disorders as well as oppositional defiance. These also include students with sensory disorders- such as light, sound, texture, and personal space struggles. In any of these cases- but especially with those more prone to outbursts when they experience frustration, time to reflect and refocus is needed in a healthy environment with low stress items for stress relief. Items such as kinetic sand, stress balls, and other sensory items are always helpful when these students are feeling stress, anxiety and frustration. Often I buy these items myself, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Every student deserves the opportunity to learn and feel comfortable in a learning environment!
My Project
Sensory activities provide a release for students who struggle with anxiety on a variety of levels and for a variety of reasons. Having an opportunity to tune out all of the hectic noises and motions of the school day greatly benefits some students. Even just a 10 minute break can make the difference in a difficult day and a successful day for a student.
Having a safe place to go with supportive equipment and activities can provide exactly what some students need.
Instead of having an in-class melt-down or shut-down, they can come and de-stress for at least a few moments. These moments are pivotal for some students to be able to continue learning and continue to be socially successful during the day.
