My Students

My students represent the needs of all students. I have a full range of learning styles and abilities. Our school has grown and changed significantly in the past few years. The diversity in our school is ever increasing, which offers many opportunities for our students to share their experiences and talents with each other.

It is this love of lifelong learning and involvement that we share with our students, and they pay it forward to their classmates and to their community.

In order to bring the students together, we implement the CLASS philosophy and treat each student as an individual and we welcome parent/volunteer interaction as often as possible.

My Project

Each morning, students shuffle into our classrooms with life's many problems weighing heavily on their shoulders. What we, as educators, offer them is consistency. Usually, this comes in the form of worksheets or reading silently. For some children, this works. For others, they want to express their creativity by building, drawing, or sculpting. They want to share their experiences and thoughts with their classmates. Soft starts let this happen. These are activities that jump-start their brains and point their minds in the right direction for learning.

By donating to this project, you are providing my students with the consistency and creative outlet that will allow them to focus on being the best students they can be.

The materials we will gain through this grant will contribute to our "soft starts collection". These activities include STEM games that correlate to our science standards, like marble races (Forces and Motion) and Legos (Engineering Design). In addition to these activities, I require some paired texts so that I can assess and reteach individual students and small groups as they finish with their soft starts. This transitions nicely into our Reading block, which is our first subject of the day.

Thanks to your generosity, I will be able to expand these activities into the beloved soft start time that is working wonders in classes across the nation. Please help me provide my students with the mornings they deserve - one that lets them shine as the special, amazing students I know they are.
