My students are young and curious. They are 5-6 years old. For many this is their first year of formal school. They come from a wide variety of home situations. Some are special education students, some are ESOL students, and some live in poverty. They may be very different in some ways, but they are alike in the most important way. They are loving, kind, and have a love of learning. They love learning and trying new things. They enjoy being active learners. My classroom bustles with the energy of students working together to discover and learn.
Each year, I have more and more students arriving in my classroom with sensory needs. These can range from aversion to loud noises, to a need for movement. The materials in this project will help me continue to meet their needs. I have a small collection of items I have invested in over the years, but could use more to meet the needs of my students.
The materials will help children focus and attend to our activities.
The fidgets and weighted stuffed animal will help students focus during large and small group lessons. The earphones will help students who find loud situations too much. They will allow those students to feel comfortable and participate in music class and assemblies.
