My Students

I work with students with special needs. Due to significant school district cuts​ for many years, my students lack basic sensory tools to access their classroom. My students have a variety of needs that include Autism, cerebral palsy, deaf and hard of hearing, ADHD, sensory processing needs, developmental delays, and motor concerns including fine motor, visual motor, and gross motor skills. Many of the challenges my students face are due to a lack of access to equipment that would support their education and participation in academics.

My students require a multi-sensory learning environment, which includes access to different visual, kinesthetic, tactile, proprioceptive, and vestibular activities to optimize their learning experience.

My students are very unique and their curriculum is catered to meet each of their learning styles. Some of my students require lots of movement opportunities to participate. Some of my students require items to decrease stimulation within the classroom. Some of my students require equipment to assist when modifying or adapting activities that they physically cannot access. Handwriting curriculum to improve my students’ handwriting needs is also needed. These are just some of the few challenges my students have.

My Project

My students would strongly benefit from a variety of sensory tools to participate in their classroom. The sensory supplies will go towards helping my students attend and focus within their classroom. Many of my students need opportunities to move while seated at their desk. This includes fidgets, movement bands around their leg chairs, wiggle stools, and sit n move cushions.

The sensory tools that this grant provides will offer my students opportunities to learn given their multi-sensory needs.

They will also provide multiple opportunities to strengthen their fine motor and visual motor skills through multi-sensory activities. The Kick Start Handwriting Without Tears kits and Learn the Alphabet dough mats support visual motor development.
