Help me give my students ways to calm down their bodies so they're ready to learn! My students are young and need fidgets and sensory toys to help them focus in order to learn.
My students are 3-5 years old but cognitively function at a much younger age (sometimes as low as 6 months). We are a self-contained class and we work on pre-academics, self-care skills, independence, and classroom behaviors.
My classroom is typically their first experience in a school setting.
Learning to be a part of the class, navigating a new environment, and learning to work is a large part of their day. My class may be young and severely impacted by their delays, but are fun, sweet, and ready to learn!
My Project
My class comprises of very early learners. They are 3 to 5 years old, but function at a much younger level (sometimes as young as 6 months old) due to global delays and severity of their disabilities. This is their first experience being in a classroom and it can be very overstimulating!
We need tools to help calm down their overstimulated minds so that they are available to learn.
Calming materials and fidget toys will help them stay on task, stay seated, and pay attention to tasks. First experiences in school are often overwhelming: new faces, unfamiliar sounds, unusual rooms, and different smells. These sensory toys and tools and help distract students from the peripheral senses and focus on the immediate ones: the teacher standing in front of them, the task placed on their workspace, etc).
