This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The mission, vision, and pledge of our school is to promote challenging educational experiences, with equity of opportunity and access, that will enable all students, commensurate with their abilities, to become participating and contributing members of a multicultural society.

Many students with special needs require an area where they can relax and decompress.

Our students face challenges that they try their best to overcome every day. Why not help us provide a sensory room experience like no other? I would like to provide my students with a sensory room experience like no other with a reclining loveseat, bean bag sofa, puzzle foam floor mat and more!

The materials we are requesting will aid our students in calming down in appropriate ways. This will also help them get sensory input as needed. This is a proactive way to reduce maladaptive behaviors in the classroom.

The sensory room will provide a space for students to get sensory input or output as needed (and individualized for their needs). Students will benefit from sitting on a beanbag with low lighting while watching "jellyfish" in an aquarium. Some students will benefit from touching sensory mats while listening to calming ocean sounds. By providing the requested materials, this sensory room will meet the individualized needs of 50 special needs students.
