Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so lucky to work with a wonderfully diverse community of learners who are committed to finding ways to follow their dreams. We have many students who are English language learners, many who come from low income families and many who come from different neighborhoods to access the specialized programs we offer at Monroe
I work with exceptional students because who they are is beyond your typical expectations.
They are unique. I run the moderate to severe special education classroom, serving students with intellectual disabilities, orthopedic impairments, other health impairments and autism.
My Project
My students are ready for a new style of sensory based learning activities. The sensory exploration kits I am requesting create a soothing tactile experience while promoting essential early development skills. Students will work on counting, categorizing, and color recognition skills while engaging in fine motor development.
Play is an essential part of learning!
The water bead sensory bins and kinetic sand play areas will spark the imagination of my students and will create terrific opportunities for social play. My students will work on language development and communication as they bring life to the small worlds created with their new sensory materials. They will also practice turn taking, cooperation and other important social skills.
Sensory play is calming and provides important physical input for children who are sensitive to stimuli. These sensory kits will work to build fine motor skills, which are important in learning to hold pens and pencils, tie shoelaces and fasten buttons.
