My Students

Working in an elementary school is never dull. Especially when you’re blessed to work with student in an Autistic Support classroom. Every day is something new and I am constantly learning. This year, our building has opened FOUR new Autistic Support classrooms.

My students are what keep me going daily.

They are the reason I purchase little toys for the prize box and decorate my room for holidays. The bond and relationships you build, with not just your students, but your families are what makes my job worthwhile!

My Project

Our building just recently became the home to FOUR new Autistic Support classrooms, ranging from Kindergarten through 4th grade. Sadly, many of our students haven't been in school before due the pandemic and school closures. They are struggling to adapt to a school setting with a lot of distractions and noises causing immense behaviors.

Many of our students DO NOT have the brain function to process sensory income leading to challenging behaviors.

These resources allow me to tap into the sensory portion of their brain, in hopes of opening them up to greater communication! For example: a lesson might start off with the use of a sensory toy which then becomes integrated it into a lesson (using core words to teach actions or sounds). The resources can be utilized in person, as well as during virtual therapy (if needed).
