I teach Early Childhood Special Education in a classroom that serves children both “at risk” for academic failure and those with identified disabilities. As a young child, I thoroughly enjoyed conducting mini science experiments to learn about how things work.
Unfortunately, the science area of our classroom is severely lacking materials. Our current science area includes a magnet set that is missing several pieces, a few science discovery tubes that were obtained through a generous donation from www.donorschoose.org, and handmade science discovery tubes we make with plastic water bottles and materials. When the State came in to visit our classroom they couldn't believe the lack of science materials we had in our room.
I want my children to learn the joy of discovery! With your help I would like to attain many different science materials for my preschoolers!
Lakeshore Learning makes many durable quality materials and they have an extensive amount of science materials appropriate for a preschool classroom. The “Discovering Color Science Viewers” are large, portable, primary colored panels that allow the children to walk around and mix and match colors to see the world in a new way. Complementing these viewers are the “Discovering Light Science Viewers” which help the children to learn about magnification, reflection, and the color spectrums of light!
In addition to the science viewers, Lakeshore makes many different tools for the children to discover magnification and magnetic principals. The “Magnifier Discovery Board” lets the children have a closer view of different common elements in their environment. Along with a set of magnifying glasses suitable for small children we would be able to look at our room in a different and much larger way!
While we do have a small set of Magnets in our class currently, we would greatly appreciate a chance to increase our magnet set in order to allow a small group of children to be able to enjoy the magnets together.
