My students need a Let's Get Moving Numbers & Counting Kit, Community & Careers Theme Box, and Science Instant Learning Centers to help them learn science and social studies skills.

My Pre-k students need to be able to touch, explore, and manipulate. Through this project, they will be able to do that in order to help them understand science and social studies concepts more effectively.
I teach Pre-k at an inner-city charter school.
My students are inquisitive young children who love to explore. They thrive on learning new things. The looks on their faces when they learn something new is priceless.
Many of my students are becoming risk takers and team players. I am so proud to see them at this point and want to encourage them to continue developing these much desired character traits. I believe that social studies and science activities are perfect for further developing risk-taking and cooperative learning among children. In addition, science and social studies activities encourage students to use critical thinking and problem solving skills.
In order to get the benefits stated above, we need materials! My students need a Let's Get Moving Numbers & Counting Kit, Community & Careers Theme Box, and Science Instant Learning Centers to help them learn science and social studies skills. Children are able to gain a better understanding when they are able to use materials that help them make connections with what they are learning. My students will greatly enjoy putting the skills they are learning about into practice and I hope they get the opportunity to do so.
My Project
The curriculum we use is divided into thematic units which are all science and/or social studies based. As a teacher, I want to be able to provide my students with the tools they need to help them further explore our science and social studies based themes. I believe that the materials I am requesting will help to do just that.
The Science Instant Learning Centers contains kits that correspond with our science based themes. Each month, a new kit will be added to our Science Center and students will be able to engage in activities that will reinforce the concepts we are learning about. The Community & Careers Theme Box will help us explore communities and the people who work there. The activities in the box will be used for students to create their own community and role play some of the jobs people have. The Let's Get Moving kit will help students see the value in exercising and being healthy and will allow them to have fun doing it. In addition, it will reinforce number concepts.
Making donations to this project will result in happier and more well-rounded children.
Many times there is a big focus on reading and math and as a result, science and social studies are pushed into the background. The skills we cover in these areas are important and need to be taught. With the materials I am requesting, students will gain the knowledge they need in these areas, have fun, and hopefully develop a love for science and social studies so they continue to want to learn and do more.
