My students are in the final stages of their high school education and preparing to take on their Senior Projects. The Senior Project is a semester-long research and service project which culminates in a presentation to a panel of teachers and other adult community members. The Senior Project presentation is seen as a right of passage, signifying the end of their English 4 course and their approaching graduation.
Presentation night is a sight to be seen.
150, English 4 students converge on the school, prepared to share their research and experience with their panel of judges. In classrooms throughout the school, students will deliver 8-10 minute presentations, which include a required visual presentation.
In order to make these presentations more seamless, I would like to equip each presentation room with a wireless mouse to serve as a presentation clicker and a digital clock to aid students in their pacing. Adding these tools to the presentation rooms will add a level of professionalism, and students will also be able to practice using these tools, allowing them to feel more prepared as they step in front of their judges.
My Project
Senior project presentation night is one of the most stressful and rewarding nights of our students' educational careers thus far.
For almost all students, this will be the first time they have stood in front of strangers or adults other than their teachers and present their hard work, so we want to make sure they have the technology tools to help them be successful.
The wireless mice can be used as presentation clickers, enabling the students to present from anywhere in the room, regardless of how the furniture is arranged. The rechargeable batteries will aid us in powering the mice while lessening our waste.
The digital alarm clocks can be set to the side, facing the student, allowing them to stay on track with their presentation timing.
The USB-C to HDMI adaptor will create an opportunity for students to work from their personal Apple devices and still be able to seamlessly present their project.
Having 20 mice and clocks will allow us to utilize many rooms on presentation night, but we will also be able to divide these supplies up among the English 4 classes so that students can practice with the exact same presentation setup as they will be using on presentation night, helping to relieve some stress.
