Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in an area of high poverty and their school is the largest in the state. Classrooms are packed and resources are most often shared. The school population is at 90% or more for free or reduced-priced lunch.
My students are a joy to work with and are very hardworking.
I have been with these particular students for all four years of high school. They are in our AVID program, which helps students achieve the goal of going to college. These last four years have gone by so fast and now they are seniors. As a senior gift, I would like to provide them binders that they can take with them to college.
My Project
The students in our AVID program have had to stay organized by using a large binder throughout their four years. Because of this, this gift is somewhat of an inside joke but will also be helpful for them to stay organized as they moved on to college. They have been given the tools to become successful in college, and one of those tools is to use a binder for organization. This binder will be utilized for this purpose. We already have a few binders on hand to provide for our students, so we only need 20 more so that everyone will receive a binder for college!
Inside the binders, we will include some sentimental items and words of encouragement for college.
Our students have worked so hard to get to their senior year. They have had their eyes set on college since middle school and the moment has arrived! We are so proud of our students!
