Our school is a public high school located in Virginia, east of Richmond. My students live in a close-knit community but in an expansive rural county. Our student body has a diverse economic and intellectual population. I serve many types of students with a diverse range of needs. Approximately 20% of our student population is disadvantaged.
I teach Art 1-3 in a Choice TAB (Teaching For Artistic Behavior) setting.
My students are learning to create their own ideas, be innovators and communicate in a visual world. I am teaching my 21st century learners how to apply the Artistic Thinking Process to their daily life. I encourage my students to be creators of their world and culture verses consumers.
My Project
The National Art Education Conference is an annual meeting of minds. It is such an energizing conference full of incredible connections and sharing. This year's convention feature speakers that I currently teach my students and I would love to be able to attend and bring back deeper learning for my students.
If I am able to attend the conference, I will be able to serve the National Art Education association by stepping up to represent the Choice Art educators division.
Unless I can attend the convention, I will not be able to take on the commitment.
Equally important, I will be able to attend sessions as well so that I too can return to my school with new strategies and tips for my classroom. I always share what I learn with my peers at school.
