Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from all different types of background. Individually, all of these students have an individualized education plan and usually come with many different stressors and backgrounds that inhibit them from learning. Through my programs and teaching, my students learn that I’m their teacher, support person, case manager, “school mom”, therapy person, etc. It’s so important for my students to feel supported and in my classroom, it is my most important job. The neighborhoods they live in aren’t always close to the school - coming in through locations from farther away and taking public transportation.
My Project
In this 200-hour Wellness, SEL, and Yoga Teacher Training, I will learn and grow through conversation and collaboration with like-minded people who are building community well-being and resilience right alongside one another.
Over 12 live sessions of interactive digital training, I will:
-Embody a progressive and holistic approach to social-emotional learning that includes self at the center.
-Gain tools and community support to enhance personal well-being and develop a sustainable, lifelong mindfulness and yoga practice.
-Get mentored and inspired to facilitate mindfulness, social-emotional learning, and mindful movement practices in a sustainable way for fellow students and the community.
-Learn and prepare sequences of in-person and online wellness experiences for adults and young people that build community, foster vulnerability, and co-create learning (core SEL competencies).
-Deepen yoga expertise through studying principles of yoga philosophy, anatomy, meditation, and asana (physical poses) in order to teach an inclusive vinyasa yoga class for adults of all levels.
-Gain the knowledge needed to articulate the connection between a foundation of well-being and the existing high priority outcomes at your school or organization.
-Join a community of like-minded educators and leaders committed to enhancing the well-being of educators, students, and families this school year and beyond.
