Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students that I plan to take on this trip are the children that have read, " Freedom Walkers" and "The Watson's go to Birmingham. The trip in intended for three classrooms of 6th graders.

The students that I teach are all low income as they all qualify for free federal lunch.

Most of the children come from homes that the first language was not English. The students struggle with the basic English language skills. All of the children in these classroom are eager and energetic to learn. I have students who volunteer to come to school at 7 in the morning for free tutoring classes.

My Project

I am envisioning the students being able to complete a compare and contrast activity including the movie, various text, and news video clips. It is my hopes that the children will be able to make connections between the various modes of information.

This project will make a huge difference because the students have read about this topic and now they will be able to view a movie with similar topics.

I surveyed my students and I have nearly 15 students who have never experienced going to a movie theater.
