My Students
Having students that embracing the adventure of learning is what I love best about teaching at my school. In my classroom "science" is a verb!
My students are active participants in their learning and help create an environment that fosters creativity and curiosity.
They bring laughter into my life and remind me every day why I love being a teacher! Our rich culturally diverse population makes our school unique to upstate New York. Diversity is celebrated at our school.
My Project
The aquaponics unit will be used as a living teaching tool for countless first hand experiences in sustainable farming, beneficial environmental alternatives, nutrition, ecosystems, plant cycles, topics in ecology, urban farming and farm to table concepts. The hands on experiential learning opportunities created by the aquaponic system will allow students of all grade and ability levels to have a positive genuine learning experience.
The system will be maintained and manged by high school students, with student led activities, tours and virtual classroom (webcam) presentations available to our entire school district of over 1000 students.
My Living Environment (Biology) students (approx. 125, 9th grade students) will have daily access to the system and be responsible for daily maintenance, data collection and crop / fish harvesting.
All students in the school district will be able to work directly with aquaponics stystem to expand their sustainable living and farm to table overall understanding through hands-on experiences. We can't wait to eat fresh vegetables and fish!!
