My Students

My students are creative, curious and motivated learners. They come to school ready to learn and play every day. This year, I would like to connect my kids with the outdoors by bringing plants indoors and teaching my students about the health benefits of having plants in the classroom.

My fifth-grade students are passionate about climate change!

I want to give them the opportunity to make the connection about how important it is for us to take care of plants and trees so they will take care of us.

Last year, our students learned a lot about composting and soil health in order to combat global warming. I want to continue to help them appreciate nature.

My Project

Offering plants in the classroom helps to bring nature indoors and provides students with many health benefits. Plants help us relax, help our moods, calm our anxieties, help us concentrate, increase oxygen and clean the air.

Students will learn how terrariums are a self-sustaining environment for plants to thrive.

In fifth grade, students learn about photosynthesis and the key ingredients plants need. In this experiment, students will see and learn about the heat, oxygen, and water trapped inside the terrarium to help make this a self-sustaining environment. Students get a better understanding of the carbon dioxide-oxygen cycle through this experiment.
