Self-Regulation Learning Library for Little Learners!
Help me give my students a learning library that will enhance our classroom lessons and activities to help them identify their emotions and learn self-regulation skills to make be able to make better choices with their actions.
As a counselor at a low-income high poverty school where 98% receive a free or reduced lunch, my students are faced with many challenges in their classrooms and in their homes. Many of our students also come from bilingual homes and are building English language skills at school with limited support with school work at home. I am looking for creative resources to give them more meaningful experiences to help them develop good social skills, become more aware of the diversity of the world around them, build and a positive mindset to tackle their own obstacles to success.
At our school our motto is "We are Destined for Greatness!" In everything we do as a school, we try to build our student's belief in their own abilities.
So many of our students do not get the support they need at home and in my classroom we focus on skills to help them grow their emotional and social skills so that they they can be more successful in all their endeavors at school and home. My students have big dreams and need the tools to help them accomplish all of their goals!
My Project
My students need activities like: Mixed Emotions and the Thoughts and Feelings sentence completion game to help them connect their feelings, thoughts and actions to real world situations. The My Moods Flipchart helps students learn that emotions are OK and gives them strategies to help them develop coping skills.
Many of my students face challenges outside of school that can make learning even more challenging.
Elementary students that experience trauma lack the ability to think about their feelings and actions in a critical way. The books like "The Invisible String" help grow our learning library to address multiple emotional needs.
