Our elementary students have a wide range of needs both academically and behaviorally. We have found our students don't always have the needed tools to meet their sensory needs. Some of our students have difficulty with sensory processing skills such as tolerating sounds, bright lights, or moving through the hallways. Sometimes these sensory experiences are so overwhelming for our students, it can lead to negative behaviors.
I believe that with our dedicated staff, the right resources, and patience, we can help our students be their best!
Our special education team is composed of 4 teachers and an amazing team of paraprofessionals. We all work together and are hoping to get these needed tools to start our sensory space.
My Project
Right now we do not have a specific space for our students to address their sensory needs. With a sensory room, our students would be able to utilize this space to find the item or items that will give them the opportunity to relieve their stress and allow them the opportunity to return to their learning environment.
These tools will help jump-start this space and get our students the needed tools to help them feel successful in the classroom.
Our students will have access to this space throughout the day before high demand academic times to help maintain focus throughout the day.
