Self Reflection

Help me give my students the chance to see themselves throw their reflection. I would like to do a series of self imagining with students as they learn to love and see them self

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are a Title One school which means our students do not come from well funded homes and go without most of the time. We work very hard to make sure they receive the same experiences that other children receive in the better funded areas of DC but teachers are only able to fund so much on top of them struggling themselves. The children love Art. Art gives them a chance to be expressive and imagine past their normal everyday life. They are focused on being everyday superheroes and how to save their community by being good human beings. They often struggle with who they want to be with who they see around them daily. We as teachers strive to have them understand that there is more to the world then Southeast DC.

My Project

The self reflection project will have students see them self I ways they would not normally get the opportunity too. We explore all apart of their face and ideas of them self by looking in the mirror. They will talk and discuss what they see and what the world might see of them. They will then create art based on their face and the interpretation of what they see by looking in the mirror.

The mirrors will also be used as a self reflection time in troubled situations they will be able to use it as a tool to work through problems internally not just by pointing the blame on other students
