Despite living in the city's second densest neighborhood, my students come to school with smiles on their faces ready to get down to the business of creating, reading, writing, and problem solving.
My students are eager to learn and motivated to make the world a better place.
They are truly a special group that work collaboratively and independently to meet their academic and personal goals. They aren't scared of challenges and they know the meaning of "productive struggle." Watch out world!
I work at a public Visual Arts Magnet that is just completing our first year. I started this year and plan to start each subsequent year teaching my students about self portraits. This is an amazing way to get to know each student and celebrate their uniqueness.
Crayons, color pencils, and paper that reflect all of their gorgeous colors will let their beauty shine!
All too often students are only given a handful of "skin" colors that don't reflect the diversity of skin tones in the world. Having access to these materials will help validate their identity.
I can't wait to see the beautiful self portraits that my next group of young geniuses create!
