My students need resources that can be used in class, such as The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook for Teens, that will provide self-care information on mindfulness, nourishing foods, and maintaining a positive outlook.
My students are diligent, hardworking, and driven adolescents who understand what is expected of them; and, therefore, do not want to disappoint. The school is a performing arts high school and, thus, most students must not only function artistically but academically as well. Undertaking both programs is an extremely rigorous process.
It is unfortunate that a large number of students succumb to anxiety and panic attacks as well as experiencing a feeling of malaise as a result of the lack of self-care.
The school has responded responsibly and favorably by providing a Wellness Center, a place students can ask for help if they are feeling overwhelmed as well as physical activity classes. Many students attending my classes confide that they get very little sleep and their high stress levels are affecting their disposition and mental well-being. Therefore, their performance, grades, and lives are adversely affected.

Having in-class resources that provide information on self-care, such as The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook for Teens, will help reinforce the importance of making health and well-being a priority.
Without health, the body and mind cannot function optimally.
Providing students with information on how to take better care, how to maintain a positive outlook, and how to better choose nourishing foods that help heal and energize the body will equip them with the tools they need to maintain their well-being at high-functioning levels. These self-care practices cover the areas of physical, mental, and emotional health. Once students incorporate these practices and experience the benefits, they will most likely continue these healthy lifestyle behaviors throughout their lifetime.
