Do you know what it feels like to have a learning disability and not being able learn/process information, unless it is taught in multiple ways? Many of my students, who are visual and auditory learners, need technology to accommodate their learning needs. This can be done using laptops.
My students have a variety of learning and emotional needs.
They are a diverse group of learners who attend a Chicago public high school that is low on funding and classroom resources. Most of my students in my classroom are visual and auditory learners and need technology to access the general education curriculum at the level they are capable of.
My Project
Providing my students with laptops will help them access the general education curriculum in multiple ways. When learning events in history, my students can explore websites, do research, write essays, present PowerPoints, and watch a variety of history clips. This will give them the opportunity to hear and get a visual image of what is being taught in class, thus being able to connect to the content. Students will also be engaged and motivated to communicate and present projects virtually to their classmates. Moreover, it will be used as an intervention to help students become more academically confident, decrease negative behaviors and increase assessment scores in reading and writing.
Proving my students laptops will not only enhance instruction, but it will enhance the learning environment for students with disabilities.
With a limited budget, this donation will be used daily to meet the learning needs for special need students. This will enable visual and auditory learners to become engaged and motivated to work on content that was not previously acceptable to them.
