My Students

My 8th-grade students in my English classes are eager learners, willing to take risks when it comes to sharing their views and emerging critical thinkers. One thing I try to encourage is a love of reading stories they like, which is why I maintain a diverse classroom library.

My Project

I am always looking for ways to encourage the love of reading for my 8th-grade students. One way to do that is to teach books in class that we all read and learn from. I hope to do that with books both old and new - Jason Reynold's book: Look Both Ways and The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.

Another sure way to get students reading is through variety and choice.

I want to do this by having current graphic novels to choose from, from stories about history (March by John Lewis) to being the new kid in school to reading about experiences of kids who are different from you - graphic novels are the perfect way to encourage kids to read more.
