The students at this school, a Title I school in an urban area, come from a variety of backgrounds. We are a magnet elementary school with a new theme of play and ingenuity, and with that comes an increase in the number of ways in which students are able to explore, create, and take risks in their learning.
The mission of our school is to foster learning experiences which allow students to develop into creative, resourceful and inventive thinkers who learn through play each day!
The Media Center collection is in need of books that are more representative of the diverse students at the school.
Titles like " The Season of Styx Malone"and "How High the Moon" will increase the number of titles featuring diverse characters, and "The Bridge Home" and "The Benefits of Being An Octopus" will open the eyes of readers about different life experiences their fellow students may encounter.
The new additions to the collection will provide students with increased choices of books that are engaging, representative and allow each child to find books that show themselves as well as accurate representations of others around them
